2010: Statutory State

Statutory State
Progress Blog

Goal: 80,000

A good start so far: 2,734 words in the first two and a half hours. That’s also about 3/4 of the first chapter, so that, too, is awesome. I managed to finish plugging my outline into Scrivener JUST before midnight, so I finally feel more settled on that front. (Also, Scrivener is awesome. Definitely still in beta, but SO AWESOME.) Despite writing a decent amount, I do feel that this first part is a big clumsy. Part of that is intentional–the first section is Janine’s old blog. I’m worried that that’s too sophisticated. And then the text immediately after it looks too juvenile. I didn’t get back into the flow until the scene in the kitchen. I think I’ll be ok from here on in, though.

JUST made it!

I just barely topped the 13,335 barrier shortly before midnight. The most exhausting part of this process is that it never ends. You have a wordcount goal EVERY DAMN DAY. What a drag, amirite? And now for something completely stupid. Ubiquitous Survey Writers; Created by zombiebandido and taken 3 times on Bzoink What do you write?: Fiction, book reviews What is your favorite thing to write about?: Anything I’m passionate about. I like writing scathing pieces about things that annoy me. Any reoccuring themes?: Feminism, I suppose. Character types you love to write?: Ballsy women, cheeky people How long does it take you to name them?: Not terrible long, for most. Then there are those who just seem unnameable! How long have you been writing?: Lets see… since I was about 12, I think. Have you won any awards, contests, or any such thing?: I won a Lit Slam once! And I’ve had some small publishings that are sort of like competitions. Favorite authors?: Oh gawd, no, please, anything but these questions of favorites! Go look at Reading Backwards, dammit. Does art inspire you at all, and if so, do you have a favorite artist?: It can, indeed. I love browsing dA for that reason. Probably a stupid question, but does music? What sort?: Oh, yes! Anything that tugs at the emotions. Do you ever try to go outside your comfort zone and how?: I’m starting to. Mostly by taking things I swore I wouldn’t do and doing them anyway. [...]

Reached my minimum for the day around 7pm on Monday, which was excellent. Everything else is  extra. Regardless of total, I want to try to hit the minim of 2667 words every day, to maintain progress. I then proceeded to not write for several prime hours. Sigh. Going to try to hit 7k before bed. Research Done: German architecture vs. Italian architecture What the hell do you call the double S symbol in German? How to come up with street names Name for that thing–radiator! Roman holidays (not the film, the events!) Awesome quotes: When M didn’t respond, the Scotsman thwapped his mighty fists onto the kitchen table and screamed, “ARE YOU OR ARE YOU NOT A SHEEP’S ARSE?” The Rich M Story (ToC) – The First Mission “I’m Civilized,” said the monkey, offering up a hand, “and I’m delighted to meet you.” The Rich M Story (ToC) – Riding for their Lives, or Enter the Monkey’s Lair Mad Typos: Then the man rubbed his eyes with his tobacco covered eyes and yelped when it stung his eyes, nearly smashing his head. The Rich M Story (ToC) – The First Mission

Bit of a slow start. I hate beginnings. They either come to one in a flash or brilliance, or they’re painful. Especially the narrative. I’ll hit the minimum tonight before bed, but will of course continue during the day. The goal is to finish the story. I’ve set the Report Card to 80k, which is 2667/day. We’ll see how I do with that. The AIM Circle was a great idea. I love being able to see how other people are doing. No hilarious typos yet. Favorite Quotes: (said in a heavy Scottish brogue) “The conflagration. We will count it down!” The Rich M Story, “Enter M” (from the beginning)

Already struggling with loyalty, privacy, friendship and love, Janine needs to work out for herself what sex means to her–and how far she is willing to go to defend her position.
