Language & Glossary
Though I’m trying not to use masses of foreign words, a few always creep in.
NOTE: There is no word for the particular ‘robes’ worn, as I have not yet settled on a design, or variants for the different uses.
- Aiyaaa!
- An exclamation, often used to express dismay, resignation, or frustration.
- Arrussian
- A person or thing from Arruss.
- Bharetian
- A person or thing from Bharet.
- Chihangi
- A person or thing from Chihang.
- concubine
- Women who are made available for the pleasure of men in residence in the Imperial Palace. The Womens’ Quarters was established to hold these women in a residence apart from the rest of the palace–and away from jealous wives.
- consort
- Consorts are exalted concubines. They almost always come from noble families, and only take men with titles, land, or high ranking positions as lovers. These men often choose one consort in lieu of the rest, and becomes her benefactor, supplying her with gifts and other priviledges.
- lo byan
- The Chihangi ‘alphabet.’ Like Japanese, there are symbols for each syllable. These syllables can be arranged to ‘spell out’ words, and are often used when introducing names. These symbols are combined to form larger characters for common words.
- rikuri
- The staves of the rikuriongo, lit. “those which cut.”
- Rikuriongo
- Lit. “the art of the cut.” A Chihangi martial arts style the uses staves, both with and without blades, weapons on strings or chains, or shield elements.
- Romasin
- A person or thing from Roma.
- yom-eru
- Lip color, typically of consistency similar to paint or lip gloss.
