The FTC and Me

The FTC and Me

Last year, the Federal Trade Commission released new guidelines concerning “Testimonial Advertisements, Bloggers, Celebrity Endorsements“. There was a bit of a kerfuffle in the Blogosphere–how dare the FTC try to regulate the Internet!? I’m sure someone will try a legal challenge sooner or later, but until then, I’d like to keep my ass covered.

ReadingBackwards is maintained for my own amusement. No one has taken enough notice of me to start offering me money for what I do here. I’m also notĀ receivingĀ a steady stream of products. As of this posting, I’ve received two books from authors requesting reviews. As you can see by those reviews, I didn’t gush adoringly just because they were freebies. Likewise, I don’t pretend to like books I receive as gifts from friends. A quick look through the Feminist Review postings will show you that I did not enjoy everything I was assigned, and I said so.

My promise to you and to myself is that RB will always be a source for my honest opinions. I am a reader first. Nobody wins if I lie about what I’m reading.

That said, if you still want to risk the court of my opinion, you may submit a request.

I also promise that, should things change and I get some kind of giant corporate spider trying to court me, I’ll let you all know.
